It’s always pleasing to eat out and know that you’re eating locally. Not only because of the premises, which is a new small independent business, but also because they source their ingredients locally, which in turn helps to support other local businesses.
Welcome, Relish Kitchen.
Founded in October 2015, Relish kitchen is a relatively new business/cafe in the town of Scarborough.
Although well located in the centre of the town, it’s not on a popular street that’s passed by locals and tourists on a normal walk through town. It’s more on a side street. Though definitely a great find.
As soon as I walked in, I loved this space. The Friends-esq like sofa area is a great touch. Ideally placed facing the window for light people spotting whilst sipping and eating away. The trunk table is a great quirky addition also.
Unlike some places, they have put great thought into their customers and have a double opening door for easy pram and chair access. Plus also a ramp/walkway from the door to the till point.
Relish kitchen has quite a modern feel to it. It’s simply decorated but the vibrant orange immediately makes the space feel lighter, brighter and bigger.
I personally prefer menus this way. I feel that the smaller the menu, the more likely that the food is homemade. By homemade, I mean made and cooked that day, not made, frozen and reheated.
With a choice of burgers, wraps, salads, kids and sharing platters, there’s really something for everyone.
So far on my visits we’ve tried the kids ‘Lunchbox’ A sandwich (choice of cheese, ham or tuna), crisps, fruit, side salad and also came with a fruit shoot. It not only went down a treat, but I also loved the presentation. It’s great visiting places that take something and really make it their own. Put their twist on it, if you will and this certainly was that. It was a great change to the normal cardboard kids lunch boxes most places offer.
The ‘Sweet chili beef wrap’ with coleslaw and a side salad has also gone down a treat, as has ‘The Blues Burger’ – a 6oz homemade burger, blue cheese, crispy bacon, caramelised red onion chutney and rocket leaves. Served with an adequately sized portion of chips, plus coleslaw and a side salad, which my husband has tried.
More recently I visited and had their ‘dirty fries’ (fries with cheese and bacon) which were a perfect mid-afternoon snack. Perfectly cooked fries, with just the right amount of cheese and a fair amount of bacon. This is quite a regular choice of snack for me and some places can be quite lacking on both the bacon and cheese.
I love visiting Relish. The breakfast menu is still calling my name…
