An Evening Meal At The Plough, Scalby, Scarborough.

About The Plough.

The Plough Scalby is a pub/restaurant/accommodation located in the heart of Scalby, Scarborough. Found on the edge of the beautiful North York Moors.

Although in the village since 1899, The Plough was recently taken over by The HQ Collection and refurbished to an amazing standard, which really defines it and sets it apart from other similar businesses in the area.

Open for lunches and evening meals. With separate menus for children and also vegetarians. Plus there are always special boards dotted around.

About the food.

Though early, we were seated with ease, a bottle of cool water also being brought to our table which I always like. Previous to my visit I had been recommended the tapas starter, which sounded amazing, but if space allows, I always prefer a desert, so we opted to skip a starter.

Being a creature of habit, I chose the 8oz steak, along with my husband. Though, open to criticism I’m sure, I ordered my steak medium-well done.

The steak came perfectly cooked and a generous size, served with peppercorn butter, a handful of chips and a couple of battered onion rings. What more do you need?

Dessert was sadly not on option for us. My husband doesn’t have a sweet tooth and although mine was telling me to get the Sticky Toffee Pudding, with salted caramel sauce and vanilla ice-cream may I add, my belly was not too sure. However, I see this as a pretty good reason to return.

A Must Visit.

Although having visited during the day and also had breakfast after our nights stay, I feel The Plough Scalby really comes alive and into its own during an evening. It has a really warm feel to it. The ambience is set with low lighting and candles lit throughout. Although a restaurant, it oozes a cosy ‘village’ feel, that allows it to also be a pub.

The service staff were extremely prompt and helpful. There seemed to be many staff floating around, which is always good to see.

A return visit to sample the lunch menu is definitely on the cards. The Rump Steak, Sticky Onion & Melted Cheddar Ciabatta sounds amazing and The Plough 8oz Burger is right up my husbands street.

The Plough Scalby is a place who’s exterior and decor aren’t where the quality stops. A must-have visit that I can guarantee won’t be your last.

Find it at: The Plough, 21-23 High Street, Scalby, YO13 0PT

I am pretty sure we visited here last summer whilst staying at the camping and caravan site up the road. If it is the same place, their sunday lunches are AMAZING and they accept taste cards x

Oh. My. Word. I'm near drooling at the sight of that steak! And those chips though. They look super crispy with fluffy middles (the chip of dreams!) x
