I am SO late to the Cowshed party that it’s actually embarrassing. However, good things come to those who wait, as they say, and it definitely lived up to its reputation to be added to a list of Where To Eat In Scarborough.
Cowshed sits perfectly just a 5-minute walk straight down the road to the centre of Scarborough. The building itself, with big open windows, makes it perfect for people watching whilst eating/drinking.
Once inside, the decor is of a minimalist/industrial style. The seating consists of, let’s call them ‘normal’, height tables and chairs, to higher bench like tables with bar stools. This is where we were seated.
Cowshed’s menu was significantly smaller than what I had imagined. However, this is something that I prefer. I feel smaller, well thought out menus, can cater for everyone, but also mean that more care and attention can be given towards the cooking of the food and service, definitely upping it’s status to where to eat in Scarborough.
My husband chose the Bacon BBQ and I definitely wanted to join him. It sounded amazing – Burger, streaky bacon, BBQ sauce, American Cheese, pickle, lettuce and tomato. For the sake of a varied review (always thinking of you guys!) I chose The Cajun. Which was – a cajun spiced chicken breast, homemade guacamole, lettuce and tomato. I also decided to swap delicious sounding skin on fries for the sweet potato fries option. More on those below.
Our food arrived within a reasonable time and looked ridiculously yummy! The pictures do not do either justice. I mean look at the Bacon BBQ burger! My mouth is watering writing about it. I was so glad I’d chosen the sweet potato fries. They were insane. In a good way. Although full, I kept picking at them trying to work out what flavourings/how they’d been cooked. Curiosity got the better of me and I asked a staff member who told me that all season and paprika. Evening made. Although the only flaw is that they’re obviously fried.
Although I am the first to order a hot chocolate and am always in the mood for something sweet, I’m generally full after the main meal alone. But, for the sake of writing the post (I told you. It’s all about you guys. Haha!) I knew I had to find a tiny space somewhere to order a dessert. Especially after I saw the wonder that is Chocolate Brownie. PLUS that it came warm AND I got to choose what ice cream I’d like. Obviously choosing vanilla honeycomb! Let me tell you. I couldn’t have been prouder of myself for not only the choices but also finding the room. It was. To die for. Very much on par with a good traditional sticky toffee pudding.
We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to the Cowshed. It is definitely somewhere we’d recommend when asked where to eat in Scarborough. It’s very reasonably priced, the service is friendly and the food amazing. What’s even greater is their support of other local small businesses, using not only local food but also drink.
If you’re thinking, which you should be, of visiting. Maybe make a booking. As it is quite small and you DO NOT want to miss out.
