I have to start by declaring that I am most definitely NOT a beauty blogger. I am not a lady that knows much at all about current trends and or how to contour. I know what I like and I like what I have. With that in mind, I’ve generally also been one to back out of conversations such as I’m about to delve into, however, over the last couple of years, I’ve found myself doing it, sub-consciously, so guess I’m not completely lost – So, Summer Beauty/Essentials Changes, like a sweet-smelling perfume L´Occitane.
We change our wardrobes per season, so why not our makeup and beauty essentials. As I said, always a conversation I said ‘nope not me’ to, however here I am, with my 2p.
Beauty in regards to seasons is definitely not the same as changing wardrobes. But then there’s definitely those items which stay with you throughout. Such as basic tees for your wardrobe and a good moisturiser for your skin. The concepts and ‘changes’ are also pretty similar and logical. Colder months bring darker colours and shades, warmer times bring lighter/brighter shades and colours.
These are a few of my Summer Beauty changes and essentials.
I’m not an everyday lip wearer, but going into warmer Spring/Summer months I definitely feel I swap between my normal ‘nude’ shades and a light pink colour. I also opt for a gloss over a matte. I’ve been favouring Boots No7 makeup recently and their (1)high shine lip gloss comes in some lovely shades.
I am a sun worshiper. Some might say. I think it’s a trait I get from my parents, but I also just really dislike having strap marks! So whenever I’m out in the sun and able to, I’ll have a strapless top on. Although I love the sun, being pale and having freckles means I’m not one of those lucky people that go a nice colour straight away.. I begin as a lobster. I’m not even joking. (Keep an eye on my InstaStories over Summer..) So it’s fair to say, aftersun is my favourite essential over the warmer months. (2)Nivea’s after sun is always my go-to, this one in particular. However their new after sun bronze lotion is a little intriguing.
Sun worshipping aside, if all else fails, fake it. I do wish I had the patience and knowledge to tan myself properly, plus extendable arms to reach my back. I always feel and look so much better with a tan. my mam always used to say I go a nice ‘biscuit’ colour from the sun and that’s a shade I like to stick to when I use fake tan. I also much prefer gradual tans over normal lotions and potions. I feel gradual tans are also easier/better to ‘fill in’ or top up on a suntan. Fake Bake has such a fab range of tanning products. I have their Sport Daily tan, which has some great ingredients for your skin, but I always favour the (3)fair gradual self-tan.
Away from beauty a little to perfumes and scents. I would never have thought that the season changes had an impact on my choice or preference of a perfume I wear, but it really does! Not being someone that can describe such things as smells and tastes very well – I can only comment that my general like of perfumes are sweet-smelling ones. I’ve always (controversial maybe – and past my age) favoured Britney Spear’s scents. The likes of Thierry Mugler are also a favourite. Not normally being one for ‘floral’ scents, I was quite taken aback at liking many (4)perfumes by L’Occitane especially the Cherry Blossom one. BTW – Roll-on perfumes are a handbag must and saviour!
Primers under foundation – I didn’t understand. Jumped on the bandwagon. Jumped off the bandwagon. Now I’m back on again. However, with (5)L’Oreal’s Lumi Magique primer. I bought it off my own back. By that I mean, though I generally always Google/Blog check beauty items before buying (you influencers you!), this I bought on a whim and it paid off, as I love it. I much prefer it over the Bloggers favourite of Porefessional.
Lastly, I don’t know about you, but I struggle with tanning my face. I can obviously rock the lobster look, but I do tend to wear SPF as a barrier – you know, to keep my youthful, ‘I’m actually 33 not 23’ looks, so I get a darker foundation to help with colour, as I just haven’t agreed with tanning lotions specifically for your face. You can’t go wrong with a good bronzer like (6)Benefit’s Hoola. It’s one of the blogger cliche’s I agree with.
