An afternoon tea is always a good idea. I mean, who would say no to a little of everything? Savoury treats, sweet treats and endless tea. Add to this equation that said afternoon tea is a FESTIVE one and well, you just stop me from going.
My good friend Lizi and I were overdue a cake date and also just a general, ‘oh that’s what you look like’ meet and chinwag. So when I suggested her visit my neck of the woods, plus it being Christmas season, there was only one thing for it – To book a festive afternoon tea in Scarborough.
Deciding upon somewhere fit for purpose – as we’re ladies don’t you know – I finally settled on the Crown Spa Hotel. Having visited for events and also spa treatments, but never food, I thought it was a good choice. We were not disappointed.
We weren’t seated in the hotel’s actual restaurant, called Taste, it was more an additional, brighter room to the rear of the bar. Having asked to be possibly seated near a window, it was nice that they had done what they could for us.
The room was minimally but tastefully festively decorated, which made us both very much more excited. It also became apparent that no one else would be joining us in the room, so we took full advantage over this by photographing everything without feeling slightly awkward.
What We Ate.
The festive afternoon tea consisted of:
Turkey and cranberry sauce sandwiches
Homemade scone, topped with jam and brandy sauce cream
Mini gingerbread man
Mini chocolate log
Slice of Christmas cake
Mini mince pie.
A choice of tea or mulled wine
I loved the simplicity of the afternoon tea. Apart from the mince pie, I loved everything. It wasn’t too over the top. Or too much that you felt overwhelmed. I feel also that you easily fill up on tea/coffee over the food sometimes whilst chatting. – But that may just be me!
Priced at a very reasonable £14.95pp or if your feeling exceptionally festive and want to indulge in the homemade mulled wine option, it’s £18.95pp.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at The Crown Spa. The service was friendly and equally attentive and I haven’t hesitated in recommending them for a festive afternoon tea in Scarborough to friends. I’ll definitely return to try further offerings from their Taste restaurant.
