I’m pretty sure that’s the standard beginning of every ’round-up’ post, but it’s so true! One minute you wallowing through January in a pre-Christmas daze and broke, as you got paid early, but, due to adulting, bills come first – the next minute it’s the longest holidays of the year (if you have children that is), where you pray for warm weather so you can spend all day at the beach, then it’s Halloween and full circle.
In reflection though, I definitely feel I’ve done, learnt and experienced a lot this year. This year has put a lot of things into perspective for me. Plus I definitely learnt, even though I knew it, that I am a scheduled person. Thankfully with my little boy starting full-time school this year, this has allowed me to find a new schedule. Eventually.
It’s definitely been a rollercoaster of a year for my blog. I went into this year with high hopes of schedules, pushing for awards, making numbers, the best photography and although I achieved some of this, with the launch of my little side business in June, my blog took a major backseat and is only starting to regain its rightful place in the last month.
I’m very much of the mind frame of not blogging just for the hell of it and my creativity for writing and producing read-worthy content was just not there. So, I left it be.
However, I have a little weekly schedule in place now, that seems to be working, so I really want to try and make use of notepads and get some ideas down as and when they come to me and spend some time really making my content good.
My blog photography has improved, as it seems to do each year, gold star to me, however, it’s my Instagram feed that I really feel shows my photography off.
I have a like/dislike relationship with myself. I’m sure this is the norm for many. However it’s really become apparent to me over this year that although I’m in a lot better place than what I have been, there’s still work to do, part of that being that I not only need to like myself a bit more on a regular basis, but that I need to believe and trust in myself a lot more.
I’ve stepped back from a few things this year too. I feel it’s good to reflect. It’s taught me a lot about many aspects of my life and with change happening in 2018, I really need to know where to invest myself.
The latter part of the year brought us the exciting news that we’d be welcoming baby number two into our lives in 2018. And yes, I still dislike pregnancy. Haha! Watch out for a post on that in the coming weeks.
I’ve reached out to a few people this year. People I admire. People that inspire me. Also, people, I’d love to spend more time with. I’m grateful to have spent some time with some great ladies this year. Having those type of people in your life that GET blogging and GET you makes blogging so much more fun, but also it easier to accept yourself as a good person.
What’s In Store For 2018.
Stick to the working schedule. It’s taken a while, but I’m finally in a good place with managing my time. This, in turn, has given me time to blog and also read. I find reading, books and or other blogs really help to get the creative juices flowing. So here’s to new content.
Continue to be sociable. I’ve loved attending events and blogging gatherings. It’s great to meet people in real life and put voices to faces etc, plus it’s great for content, blog and socials. (Who doesn’t search out the best Instagrammable places for brunch?) I’d love to continue with this into the new year. Make plans. Attend events. Plus hopefully, meet some new wonderful ladies along the way.
Use some time to really develop my photography. Try out new locations, plus be more creative with filters and props. In turn, promote more of what I do to businesses.
Lastly. Believe in myself. Always. That goes for you guys too.
