Scarborough has plenty of pubs. As most towns do. Many of these pubs and restaurants offer ‘sizzling’ dishes. But there’s a new contender in town and they’ve brought in the big boys – The Rosette in Scalby has been refurbished and taken over as the only Sizzling Pub in Scarborough.
Now, admittedly, I don’t think I’ve visited a Sizzling Pub before. Though being a steak lover, along with my husband, who I decided to treat to a rare night out, we were very much looking forward to seeing what it had to offer.
Sizzling Pub Scarborough.
On entry, the Rosette had a wonderfully fresh, modern and friendly atmosphere. The decor was very wood-like, with different shades and colours, but without looking old.
The Rosette is perfectly designed. By that, I mean that as well as the main restaurant/eating area, which also has a bar and general seating area, the front of the pub actually acts as the main bar/drinking area. This layout is something I personally love, as I feel sometimes ‘watched’ while eating by those that aren’t and also if sports are on, it can get pretty rowdy and a catch-up meal with the husband or friends can easily turn into a shouting match.
I don’t normally order a starter. If you haven’t guessed, my sweet tooth rules the roost and I’ll choose a dessert instead. However, I made an exception. I felt I owed it to the review (Haha!) and also, I’m pregnant.
The house fried corn nachos very much took my fancy, but I was actually swayed by the southern fried chicken pieces with peri-peri and sour cream sauce. Which, it turned out, was a fabulously yummy, but not at all filling choice. The southern coating of the chicken pieces was perfect and the peri-peri sauce was, well, let’s say, HOT.
My husband chose the garlic prawns, which were, in fact, king prawns. They were covered in garlic butter and came with a piece of garlic bread – just to make sure you were safe from the vampires. They were definitely hit, being demolished pretty sharpish.
Mains. My husband and I are very much steak eaters. I decided upon the Tennessee loaded steak, and loaded it was! A sizzler pan with a bed of onions, an 8oz sirloin steak, topped with Crispy Streaky Bacon, THE most amazing bourbon glaze and melted cheddar, with a grilled flat mushroom, grilled half tomato, onion rings and seasoned chips. I mean. It reads like a thing of beauty and it did not disappoint.
My husband chose the other loaded steak option of the Caroliner. Not on a sizzler pan. The Caroliner is a 8oz sirloin steak, topped with prawns in garlic butter, served on a bed of sizzling onions with grilled flat mushroom, grilled tomato, onion rings and seasoned chips.
Both our steaks came cooked as requested and with each main priced at £11.50, we had no complaints and felt the prices were more than reasonable for what you got.
Dessert time. What a choice I had. Treacle sponge is always a good call, though generally my go-to after a Sunday lunch. Cookie dough cream pie sounded ah-ma-zing, then there was a simple but yummy sounding caramel apple crumble. My belly was near full, so this seemed like a good call and thankfully, when it arrived at the table, the slice was just perfect.
In conclusion, our first visit to the Rosette, sizzling pub in Scarborough, was as expected and ticked all the boxes. Clean, updated, friendly, reasonably priced and yummy food. It’s also a point to mention that The Rosette is a family-friendly pub, with a children’s menu and amply sized play area to the rear and seating area. Hello Summer.
It is definitely somewhere that I have since recommended to people and will be returning to ourselves,, as a family. A sizzling pub in Scarborough is a welcomed one.
