5 Things Post Lockdown.

After lockdown.

Life is all kinds of crazy right now, Isn’t it? Every morning I wake up and for a short period of time, I forget the reality of this hell we’re all living right now. Some definitely being worse than others.

I look outside and see the world as it always looks. I look around the house and it looks exactly as it always does. And I look at my family, who are with me as they always are.

Yet the reality is that life will never be the same again.

However challenging and hard these hours, days, weeks, months are now, that’s not to say that there won’t be a life beyond this, there will be, but it will come with new challenges and tough times for many, if not all of us.

 


After Lockdown.


That being said and although it took a week to get my head around the reality and severity of what is going on, I’ve tried, going forward to use this forced time to evaluate my being, which I touched on and shared in a post recently, So here I thought I’d write about a few ways and things I’ve begun to and plan to continue to do for myself and my life after lockdown.

 

 

  • Read/Listen more

Audio, listening to books, is something that I’ve been meaning to do for some time, yet have kept putting it off. I don’t get much time to just sit, but I also don’t just sit very well. However, over these past few weeks and with my Amazon list of books to read growing, I thought I just needed to bite the bullet and I love it. Though listening through headphones, I’m still doing bits on my laptop, but I do feel I’m taking it in consciously and subconsciously. On an evening before sleep I do still also physically read, using my Kindle. There’s nothing quite like reading the words of a book. But I definitely want to make more use of both forms and read/listen to more books.

 

  • Make More Time For Family And Friends.

It’s true what they say, you don’t know what you have until it’s gone/that you should never go to sleep on an argument/always tell people you love them/and don’t put off things until tomorrow. If this pandemic and forced lockdown teaches us anything as a race, I hope it’s that we should appreciate at all costs, those we have around us. Personally, it’s in times like this that you really find out where friendships lie. I haven’t set these assumptions high; I’ve had my down days and missed messages from not wanting to be on my phone, but I’ve contacted people whom I genuinely miss talking to and seeing and I would think the same applies to how other people work. Moving forward, it’s these people who I’ll put my time into. Also, I say it most years, but I plan to make a better effort with seeing certain family members. No one lives in another country, so no excuses.

 

  • Visit More Independent Businesses.

My life after lockdown will be nothing without brew and cake dates. Over the last year, I have begun writing about and featuring local businesses more on the blog, but this is definitely something that I want to do more of. I’ve really missed going for brew and cake dates with friends and family. I wrote a list at the beginning of the year of those places I wanted to visit this year and well, I’m a tad behind now, to say the least. As well as the lust to visit more local independent places, after this pandemic, they’ll definitely need all the custom they can.

 

  • Make Time For Exercise And Exercise Daily.

Pre-pandemic, my daily exercise purely consisted of the school run, maybe with a cheeky weekend run thrown in when I could muster the enthusiasm. being a stay home mum, my available ‘free-time’ is limited and even though my youngest naps at a set time each day, I was using that time to blog or do coursework. However, since lockdown, I’ve been taking myself out for a half-hour run, then listening to an audiobook whilst on my laptop for the remaining time. Though this isn’t something I’ll be able to carry on with after lockdown, I’ve loved getting out each day for a run and think either first thing in a morning or delay my tea and go for a run first, I definitely want to try and incorporate it into m everyday routine.

 

  • Take More Photos.

What?! I hear those who know me say. I know, it may sound a bit controversial in some ways. In regards to my family, I feel I’ve got my shit together; I make Photo Books for the boys each birthday, so they have memories of the previous year to look back on. Plus my Instagram and stories are never short of photos, however, it’s more photos of me, but more so, photos of my friends and I. It’s easily done sometimes, you go out with friends and you’re having such a good time that you just forget to ‘document it’ in a matter of sense. Then there’s also the (silly) fear that the other person may not want their photo taken or see it in any other way than the good feels. But I refuse to think that anymore. I love looking back on photos, especially those with friends. Who doesn’t? So for those reading, you’ve been warned.

    Great list Caroline. I genuinely cannot wait for our first ‘cake date’ post lockdown, I’ll get my photo face ready. I really do miss our catch ups xx

    This is a really positive (and thoughtful) list. 😍 I totally agree with all of them – it’s so important to take time out for ourselves and those most important to us. Our busy lives pre-lockdown meant that our time always felt rushed but I’m really hoping we have left that world behind and will start a new, more considerate and connected world for everyone.
